Advertising Requirements:

All publications of The Golf Digest Companies are produced using computer-to-plate technology. All advertising material must be converted to digital form before plate making. For both parties to obtain the greatest benefits from a computer-to-plate workflow, please submit advertising material in one of the digital file formats listed below. The Golf Digest Companies cannot be responsible for the inaccurate manufacturing of ads that are not supplied with clear copy guidance. We cannot accept responsibility for reproduction errors with ads submitted as application files or ads that do not adhere to SWOP standards.

General Specifications:

Required Information:
Please supply the name and phone number of a contact to reach should we encounter problems opening disks or processing digital files. Include a printed directory of files submitted, and file format used, file resolution, and type of proof submitted.

Press Guidelines:
Publications are printed web offset. Follow SWOP specifications unless otherwise noted here. (See WWW.SWOP.ORG) Line screening of 133 lpi recommended. Observe maximum TAC of 300% with no more than one color solid. Ink sequence: KCMY.

Digital File Media:
Submit files on industry-standard digital media, such as Iomega Zip, Iomega Jaz, 5.25 optical disks, or CD-ROM. Any files compressed with an application such as StuffIt or ZIP, should be saved as a self-extracting archive.

Hard Copy Proofs:
We require 100% of final size, digital color contract proofs (Approval, Iris, Fuji, Dryjet, Digital Matchprint) of each electronic page. Desktop color laser or inkjet proofs are not acceptable for color guidance. If contract proofs are not available, color laser copies must be supplied for makeup guidance. We will create contract proofs (at a nominal additional charge) for color matching purposes on press. To ensure the proof predicted results, these proofs must be made from the files submitted for plating.

Application Files:
Native files produced by Quark XPress, PageMaker, Freehand, Illustrator, etc., are inherently unstable in the prepress process. Due to this limitation, we cannot accept these files for ad production.

DCS Files:
DCS (Desktop Color Separations) can be either DCS 1.0 or DCS 2.0 (single or multi-file). They should contain unscreened images. They must have only one page per DCS file. Page sizes must be consistent throughout the job. Pages must be created to include bleed, when required. Crop marks must be out of the bleed area. A 12-point offset is recommended. These DCS files must contain all high-resolution images and have all fonts either embedded or converted to outline. Due to the fact that QuarkXPress does not embed fonts when generating DCS 2.0 files, they are not an acceptable DCS file format at this time.

Digital File Resolution Specifications:
The CT image resolution should be 300 dpi or 12 l/mm. Screened bitmap images must have a resolution of 2400 dpi

CT/LW [Including Scitex CT/LW & TIFF/IT-P1]:
CT/LW (Continuous Tone/Line Work) files can be supplied as either Scitex Native, Scitex HandShake (RMX or UFS), or TIFF/IT-P1. Each CT/LW page must have a “x-0, y-0” offset for the CT/LW or each page must have an accompanying “FLYT” or “PAGE” file. Single pages are requested. The page size must be consistent from page to page or the job will be rejected. Pages must be created to include bleed when required. A page can be supplied as a stand-alone LW file, but a CT must have an accompanying LW file.  Spot colors (PMS) need to be supplied as a separate LW file. If your system generates NLW (New Line Work) files which support process and spot colors within a single LW file, advance testing must be done with the manufacturing facility prior to digital release. Generally, NLW is not supported at this time. Contour files (HCT) are not supported at this time.

Digital File Resolution Specifications:
The CT resolution should range between 10 and 16 l/mm, with res. 10 and 12 being the standard. The LW resolution should range between 50 and 80 l/mm, with 72 or 80 being the standard.

PDF from Acrobat 3.0:
PDF (Portable Document Format) must be supplied as composite pages, one page per PDF file. Page sizes must be consistent throughout the job. Pages must be created to include bleed, when required. Crop marks must be out of the bleed area. A 12 point offset is recommended. These files must contain all high resolution images as CMYK and have all fonts embedded. The following Acrobat Distiller 3.0 settings are recommended:
