Klara Glowczewska was appointed Editor in Chief of Condé Nast Traveler in January of 2005. An editor at the magazine since its 1987 inception, she had been the Executive Editor, a position she held from 1992.
As Editor in Chief, Glowczewska has launched the annual World Savers Awards and World Savers Congress, which recognizes travel companies from around the world for their work in five key areas of social responsibility. Glowczewska also established the Condé Nast Traveler Five and Alive Fund, which supports children five and under in 36 countries by supplying medicines and safe water and improving nutrition.
Several of the articles Glowczewska has edited over the years were nominated for National Magazine Awards, including two for best Essays & Criticism—the first time a travel magazine had ever been nominated in that category. Condé Nast Traveler has been nominated for 24 National Magazine Awards, seven of which were in the General Excellence category. The magazine has won six awards in diverse categories, including Special Interest, Design, Photography, and General Excellence. Condé Nast Traveler remains the only travel publication to ever win a National Magazine Award.
Before joining Condé Nast, Glowczewska held a number of highly regarded positions in book publishing and journalism, including at Random House and at The New York Review of Books. She has also edited for Condé Nast Publications’ Vanity Fair and The New Yorker.
Born in Warsaw, Poland, and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina; Cairo, Egypt; and New Canaan, Connecticut, Glowczewska is fluent in French and Polish. She has translated three books by the internationally acclaimed Polish writer Ryszard Kapuscinski, including his final book Travels With Herodotus published in 2007.
Glowczewska received her B.A. magna cum laude from Yale, where she majored in English. She lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
